What Do Realtors Do, and How Much Do They Charge?
Like most things, the answer here is, “it depends.” What are your plans for your home, and who do you want to buy it? The buyer you want to find determines the kind of process you’ll need to sell. What is most important to you? Are you looking to sell your house to another individual or family to live in it long-term? Or is your primary goal to sell fast and save money?
Different real estate agents offer different levels of service, but in general, you should expect a real estate agent to do these 4 things:
What do real estate agents charge and who pays?
Most home sales involving realtors take 5-6% of the sales price in commission. There are usually different realtors representing the sellers and representing the buyers, but the commission is paid out of the seller’s side of the transaction. So, if you sell your house for $300,000, the real estate commission will be between $15,000 and $18,000, and that comes out of the sales price at closing.
Selling your home is not a one-size-fits-all decision. For some, it will be best to use a realtor and sell to another individual or family, but others may need to sell more quickly or keep their costs down.
